I hope you are all good and enjoying the clay court season. I love this time of year where the tennis season really hots up, we have so many masters 1000 events bunched together and two slams literally a couple of weeks a part. So much happens now that sets the scene for the rest of the year.
I had a great start to the clay season as you all know, winning back to back ATP Challenger titles in Sarasota and Savannah which was a pretty awesome couple of weeks for me having been out for a couple of months. I then had a niggle in my stomach and ab so decided to head to Europe to prepare for the red clay. The conditions are colder and slow which means the points are longer and need more construction which is fine with me but physically you have to be read, so we headed over with AK and put the hours in to make sure I’m ready.
My first event on the red clay was a Challenger in Helibronn in Germany, it wasn’t my finest hour and to be honest I just never got my head in to the match and struggled from the first ball and to think I had so many chances too which makes it doubly annoying but the fact is if you’re not at your best there are a lot of guys that will punish you for it and Andrej certainly did that so major props to him, he has now won through to the semi’s too so good luck to him there too.
I am in Dusseldorf at the moment, my Mum flew in earlier this week and we headed to Dusseldorf for the ATP qualies event with AK who is my strength and conditioning coach, we met my coach Simon in Dusseldorf as he made his way back to Europe from Melbourne. Sign in for qualies is later today, I should get in and it will provide me with some great preparation for the French Open.
Tennis Australia have granted me a wild card in to the main draw as part of their reciprocal wild card agreement with the FFT and the USTA, I am massively grateful and will look to take advantage of the opportunity again. Paris is a great city and has been pretty special to me the past couple of years for different reasons so I am looking forward to heading back there. I am signing in for the mixed doubles too but I’m keeping my partner unwraps until we know we are in, I think we’ll be a good pair and will have a lot of fun if we can get a WC. I really enjoyed playing mixed in the Aussie Open and would love to play something like the Hopman Cup in future years as its a great format, fun to do and above all else its representing the green and gold of Australia.
I am going to have to leave you guys now but thanks for checking in, keep sending the quality messages I love them and do my best to read and reply to every single one. Don’t forget you can check out my latest clothing from Nike or racquet from Yonex in the my gear section if you are interested in what racquet I am using or clothes I am wearing.
