State-side Tales

Nick Kyrgios Bonds

Hey Guys,

Its been a week of ups and downs although more ups than downs, I have to admit!!

As you all know I had to withdraw from Cincinnati with some bone stress in my left arm, thankfully the MRI scan showed up no major damage and I’m not at immediate risk of causing a stress fracture either but I do need to protect it and rest it where possible. It was really disappointing to have to withdraw from Cincinnati, it was the first time I have been to Cincinnati and I really liked it and felt so comfortable there. There is a theme park nearby too and myself, Thanasi and Mozza (John Morris) went to King’s Island which was unreal as they have some world class rides, it was a really good afternoon and a great way to get over having to pull out of Cincy. I’ll definitely be back in Cincinnati next year, hopefully making up for having to miss out this year.

When I left Cincinnati we headed straight for IMG Academies in Bradenton, Florida. It’s a great facility and somewhere I have trained before and really enjoy going to, there are a whole bunch of Aussie’s and other players here too preparing for the US Open so there are plenty of people to hit and hangout with. I need a new roomie though as Thanners headed off to New York yesterday to play US Open qualies. I am leaving here on Monday and will prepare in New York for a few days ahead of the Open. We really have had a blast here and have played some basketball after training which has been awesome, we’ve managed to get a good group together including Thanners, Todd Langman (TK’s coach), Rory (TK’s trainer), Ryan Harrison, Michael Mmoh, Aki Santillan, Alex Bolt and a few others. I love my basketball and really get in to it, I’m super competitive too so a few of the guys were taken aback a bit but it was all good.

Whilst at the academy I did an interview on Sunrise in Australia to talk about my awesome new partnership with Bonds, it was a shame there were a few technical hitches as I was pumped to talk about the partnership. I’ve had a bit of a ribbing on twitter about saying I don’t wear undies on court, It would be too restrictive to wear undies under my Nike skins but in training when I am not wearing my skins I wear undies and of course whenever I am off court I always wear my Bonds. It’s funny because I have always worn Bonds since I was a kid so to now be working closely with them is great and something I am super excited about as I really believe in the brand and product. I hear my commercial with Pat Rafter has hit the TV now in Australia, it was great fun to do and I felt really comfortable with the team, I thought the concept was funny and I’m looking forward to what they have in store for me next.

On Thursday I hit the malls with Mozza and bought myself a few bits including some new clothes and kicks (sneakers/trainers for you non Aussies) I love shopping in the States (not quite like Mozza though) as you get stuff that is just not available anywhere else and the prices are good too. I bought myself a new wallet as well as a new diamond ear stud, although I’m guessing my Mum didn’t appreciate the call in the middle of the night asking her opinion on whether I should spend that much or not, you’ll be pleased to know I compromised a little. My Mum said don’t buy it and I spent half what I was originally going to spend, I’m pretty sure that’s a compromise, right??

My brother Christos arrives in to New York on Sunday, I’m looking forward to seeing the big man and we have a couple of things planned for next week. We are going to see Drake in Central Park on Tuesday and then going to watch Team USA Vs Puerto Rico in basketball in Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, I really can’t wait and am so pumped. I love New York anyway but to have these other things to look forward to really is just awesome.

Anyway guys, I better go as I have physio to do on my arm and another on court session to do before more basketball later today!!
